Alissa Pocock
High School Concerto Winner - November 2007
Alissa Pocock began piano lessons in the third grade with Mrs. Frances
Filmer of Chittenango, New York, while living in central New York state.
Moving to the Marion community during her eighth grade year in January 2004,
she continued her piano studies with her great aunt and IWU piano professor
Dr. Carolyn Kindley.
In January of 2007, she became a piano student of IWU piano professor Dr.
Phoenix Park-Kim. Alissa began playing for adjudication in the firth
grade and has received gold ratings at the state ISSMA solo/ensemble
festival for her piano solos each year since beginning high school.
In May of 2007, she was named the state winner of the senior piano
division of the Indiana Music Teachers Association (IMTA) Hoosier Auditions
competition. She performed for Dr. Kindley's retirement concert in
April of 2005 and for the annual IMTA conference in November 2007.
A senior and an honors student at Eastbrook High School, Alissa sings
with the Heart of Indiana Children's youth group. Alissa is the
daughter of Daniel and Beth Pocock of Marion. Daniel is a professor of
graphic design at IWU and Beth is employed by Marion attorney Donald Leslie.
